Westbourne School has long been known for its outstanding academic credentials and commitment to providing a first-class education for all students. For generations, pupils have progressed to study at the world’s most outstanding universities- from Oxford and Cambridge, to the Ivy League.

Now, the school’s latest innovation promises to give students more choice and support in refining their future pathways, helping them win places on the most sought-after university and professional programmes globally.

This summer, Westbourne celebrated record-breaking Sixth Form exam results – the best in the school’s 125-year history – which secured its students places at exceptional universities including Cambridge, UCL and Imperial, studying courses from Law to Engineering and Medicine.

The award-winning school aims to ensure that every Sixth Form student leaves equipped not only with the best academic grades, but also the skills, knowledge and confidence to explore a future that best suits their ambitions/ Crucially, every pupil is closely supported by expert staff, on a one-to-one basis, to identify and shape their academic and career goals.

For this autumn, Westbourne students will be supported by a groundbreaking new careers and destinations platform, a personalised service that empowers young people to discover and apply for the best opportunities across the globe. This is a core part of the school’s drive to provide unrivalled careers guidance and opportunities for all pupils.

The platform is informed by the eight Gatsby pillars of careers excellence. It includes a global database of universities, placements, scholarships and summer schools, through which students can compare degree programmes across the world, including at all Oxbridge and US colleges. They can also access round-the-clock subject and careers libraries, expert podcasts, as well as “super-curricular” activities such as webinars run by employers.

The new hub enhances Westbourne’s existing leading careers provision, which includes weekly one-to-one mentoring, open-door access to staff, university preparation workshops, and professional development opportunities such as the acclaimed INSEAD business programme in Paris.

Principal of Westbourne School, Dr. Gerald Griffiths, explained: “The pandemic, with all the challenges it has presented, has reiterated the importance of innovating, pushing forward, and thinking outside the box. We are proud to launch this new careers platform for our students, which works in conjunction with out existing expert provision to offer pupils opportunities to explore global pathways, universities, industries and companies.

“To launch supports our endeavour to nurture students to achieve their ambitions, and to fulfil their true academic and personal potential.”
