RNLI Yellow Welly Hunt

The annual yellow welly hunt is back this year, perfect to keep your little ones entertained throughout the whole of the summer holidays. Simply keep your eyes peeled in and around Penarth to spot the yellow wellies hidden in the town’s shops and public venues. Pick up your map and clues from the RNLI lifeboat station for just £2, and feel great that you’re supporting the lifeboat station at the same time!

Write secret messages

We’ve found some really cool science experiments for those rainy days indoors this summer, like this one for writing a secret message using invisible ink! With supervision from adults, these experiments are guaranteed to wow big ones and little ones!

What you’ll need
  • Red grape juice
  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 1/3 cup water
  • Cotton buds with paper stem
  • Paper or card
  • Small paint brush
Method
  1. Make the invisible ink by mixing the baking soda and water in a bowl.
  2. Write your secret message, or draw your map to the hidden treasure on the card using the cotton buds.
  3. Paint the paper with the grape juice to reveal your hidden message.

Cardiff Bay Treasure Trail

Great for a family day out, use your detective skills to find the hidden clues around Cardiff Bay’s beautiful architecture and wonderful wetlands. Can you and your little ones outsmart the other detective agents? Download the self-guided trail from Treasure Trails.

Party time

Little Fizz will run fun-filled classes, parties and events throughout the whole summer! Little Fizz’s beach-themed, half-term preschool classes run for 7 weeks during June and July, followed by a programme of summer events for the 6-week school holidays! Older siblings are welcome to join in the fun during school holidays too! Our annual beach parties will run for the 11th year, starting on 29 July! Full details of our award-winning classes, summer events and birthday party entertainment at www.littlefizz.co.uk

Pirates, ahoy!

Take a walk around Penarth’s dazzling marina to see all the different types of boats! Can you spot the fishermen? What’s the biggest boat you can find? How many funny boat names can you find? Watch out for pirates and smugglers. They’ll be looking for all the gold and treasure they can find! The Galley can also set you off with a great takeaway coffee or cold drink. Ask about their cronuts too—they’re delicious!
