Crafty Devil’s Cellar: New Chef. New Menu. Your New Place To Eat!

Here at Penarth View, we were lucky enough to be invited down to Crafty Devil’s, situated in Penarth’s Town Centre, to meet their new chef and have a taster of their new menu.
26-year-old Chris Sweetman, who has only been working at the burger bar for two months, has introduced a brand new menu, which has already proven popular with the customers.
The new menu consists of six burgers, ranging in price from £9 -£12, ten side dishes, a children’s section, three ice cream flavours, three milkshake flavours and two sharing platters.
Describing a few of the dishes available, Chris said: “We do a 100% vegan burger. The bun and patty is completely vegan. I’ve got vegan mayo and vegan burger sauce that I make myself.”
“We do cheese burger sliders, which are a portion of mini burgers. So if you don’t want a full meal, you can share them with your friends. You get about eight mini burgers.”
”I make my own normal sauce as well as the vegan one.”
Having taken everyone into consideration when creating his menu, there is something everyone can enjoy at Crafty Devil’s Brewery.
Chris’ enthusiasm and passion for creating one-of-a-kind burgers shines through in the time and effort he has put into the menu. He added: “What separates me from other people is that I like to challenge myself and push myself. When you do it, deliver it and serve it.”
“I had to crack on with it straight away. The first four weeks, I didn’t stop. I wanted to do something that would shock the customers.”
“I’m coming up with the ideas myself and learning to cook it myself.”
Whilst the UEFA Euro 2020 were underway, Chris even had the idea to create a burger for the finals, with one dedicated to England and one for Italy. The English burger consisted of a classic favourite- ‘Bangers and Mash’, whilst the Italian burger was Margherita. With both of these unique inventions proving popular, Chris has continued to impress customers with some taking to complimenting the chef directly.
The products used are sourced as locally as possible and to the highest quality, with the suppliers being David Lush Butchers Penarth, Windsor Fruit and Vegetables Penarth, Fablas Ice Cream Cowbridge and Alex Gooch Bakery Pontcanna.
When telling Penarth View about why he enjoys what he does, Chris explained: “I like the creative range because of what I can do. It’s my own personal touch.”
“I do like making the sliders because they’re fun. The platters, because they look nice and using the slow cooker as it comes out really tender.”
“I try to put a modern twist on things.”
When trying the food ourselves, we found that the Cheese Burger Sliders had a crispy bun and the perfectly cooked meat was full of flavour. The smokey barbecue sauce complimented the burgers well.
We highly recommend this food menu to anyone that’s looking for a new local spot, or for anyone who can’t wait to get back after lockdown! With an incredible menu and drinks to match, you won’t want to miss out.
