Wales First Padel Court Officially Open
Windsor Penarth officially opened the first Padel Court in Wales on the 14th March.
Played by over 12 million people worldwide, the racket sports increasing popularity brings hope that many places in Wales will soon follow suit.
What is Padel?
With combined elements from tennis, badminton and squash, Padel is played in a 10m x 20m court surrounded by glass walls and steel fence. The presence of a net, the scoring system and the balls are similar to tennis. Although having the same appearance and being the same size as a standard tennis ball, Padel Balls are depressurized with the hardness and thickness of the core giving the pressure-less ball it’s bounce.
Padel bats tend to be small, meaning they’re easier to manoeuvre than tennis rackets. Padel is doubles only and can be played indoors and outdoors.
A helpful starting point towards tennis, Children can start playing Padel from 4 years old. The game is relatively easy for them, promoting teamwork as well as hand-eye coordination.
During an hour of Padel, young adults will be actively involved for approximately 50 minutes, making it a great cardiovascular exercise over a short period of time. 30% of young adult Padel players are woman, with a further 30% new to racket sports.
Being the perfect intermediate between tennis and golf, Padel is less strenuous on the body than tennis or squash, making it perfect for Seniors.
Thanks to their play and pay system, the court is open to members for £4pp/hour, and to the public for £6pp/hour.
