Celebrations in Penarth today on the anniversary of VE Day will look very different to those in 1945. These photos from People’s Collection Wales and Vale of Glamorgan Libraries show celebrations in a field behind Wandsworth Avenue, Plassey Street, and Grove Terrace and Grove Place.

Although we may not be able to be with our veterans on VE Day, we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to this magnificent generation for the sacrifices they made on our behalf. Diolch.
