The Home Physio Company Offers Services In Penarth

Pippa-Marie SheppardBusiness, Community

The Home Physio Company has started offering their services to the Penarth Community, catering to those who would benefit from physiotherapy intervention. With over 17 years of experience as a qualified physiotherapist, Suzy Battle (Nee Gluck) set up The Home Physio Company 4 years ago. She said: The business has grown in strength year on year. We currently offer our services mainly in the western vale and parts of Bridgend but are now looking to Penarth to expand out business and provide our services to its residents as well.”

Unlike many other private physiotherapists who focus on muscle, joint and sports injuries, The Home Physio Company ‘aims to cater for many of the other groups of clients who would benefit from physiotherapy intervention’, offering services including;

  • Falls and Frailty. Physiotherapy is primely places to improve strength and cardiovascular fitness, increase confidence, provide advice and guidance on activities of daily living and transform quality of life.
  • Post illness / hospitalisation recovery. Many older clients have a significant decline in physical function following an illness and especially following hospitalisation. Physiotherapy will reverse this decline and can improve health and well-being.
  • Respiratory care. Physiotherapists provide expert advice and knowledge of chronic condition management; breathing exercises, secretion clearance techniques, advice and guidance on living with a chronic disease and increase fitness and strength.
  • Cardiac rehabilitation. For anyone living with a cardiac condition or following surgery rehabilitation is a vital part of recovery but so many miss out on NHS provision. We can provide one-to-one rehab increasing fitness, strength, confidence and independence.
  • Palliative care. Physiotherapy can help meet peoples’ physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs when they are nearing the end of life.

Speaking about their core values and commitments to all of their clients at The Home Physio Company, Suzy added: “We aim to help you reach your potential by facilitating you to live a full and active life. As specialists in elderly rehabilitation, frailty, respiratory care and neurology, you can be rest assured that you’ll be in the right hands. We believe in giving you your voice back and empowering you so you feel in control once again. It is vital to listen to what you want and fully involve you in your treatment, progress and improvement. In working with you as a whole person, which includes understanding your environment and circumstances, as well as those of your partner, family and carers, so that we can work together as a team to solve problems and make quality of life better for all.”

During the pandemic, the decision was made for The Home Physio Company to close their doors, and now they are working hard to help their affected clients. Suzy explained: “The COVID pandemic has affected everyone’s lives; The Home Physio Company has seen this first hand in so many different ways. But the company is fighting back to put clients back on the right track to a fitter, stronger, healthier life. During the first wave we made the decision to close the business and return to support the NHS front line full-time. The NHS had no choice but to discharge as many patients as possible as quickly as possible. So many patients lost out on rehabilitation they vitally needed because the government understandably wanted to shield them from COVID. But returning to our clients months later demonstrated the damage this had done. So many people who were shielding had dramatically lost their mobility, their independence. They were weaker, more frail and had very much lost their spark. The Home Physio Company is now back and fighting hard to reverse these problems. We visit people in their own homes – in full PPE and following all infection control guidelines. We will assess you, or your loved one and support you/them on their journey to a stronger life – happier, more independent, and safer around the house.”

“The other side of COVID can be felt by many of the people who has been unlucky enough to contract COVID. They know only to well the wave of fatigue that can come with the virus – lasting for weeks or months. 1 in 10 people with COVID will sadly have what experts are calling ‘long COVID’. This lasts for well over 3 months post diagnosis and we know of clients who are heading into 9-10 months of symptoms. ‘Long COVID’ frequently involves fatigue, breathlessness, anxiety and depression, palpitations, chest pain, joint and muscle pain and ‘brain fog’. Physiotherapy can help people overcome these problems, The Home Physio Company have years of experience working with clients following intensive care stays, many of whom present with similar symptoms so are perfectly placed to offer advice, support and treatment to help.”
