Although we’re starting to see the glimmer of normality, we still have to do our best to keep each other safe so some restrictions, especially travel are still in place. But there are still lots of places you can go this Christmas and still keep yourself safe.

Winter Wonderland

Cardiff Winter Wonderland is spectacular and is expected to be bigger than ever. With its usual ice skating, fairground rides, food and drink, stalls and great music, it’s the perfect festive trip. And what’s so great about Winter Wonderland is that it’s perfect for everyone. You can take your family and enjoy the rides and fun Christmas treats, or you can enjoy an adult night out with delicious, soul-warming mulled wine and great stalls.

Light Trails

Light trails have grown in popularity over the last few years and we can’t get enough of them. There are lots of light trails happening in and around Cardiff this year, including one in Bute Park, which promises to be a magical night. Christmas lights are one of my favourite things about Christmas.

Christmas Markets

This has to be one of my favourite part of the Christmas season! What I love about it, is that independent creators have a space to promote and sell their products and I’ve never been disappointed by the quality and the range. There is a big one in Cardiff high street this year, which will be running until the 23rd December. But there are so many Christmas markets this year, big and small. Head over to our What’s on Guide to see them all.

We always love to support small and independent businesses, so make sure you head down to a Christmas Market and pick up some wonderfully festive treats for you and your loved ones.

Santa’s Grotto

A Christmas must-do, especially if you have children. Due to some restrictions still being in place, things might be a little different than early years. But visiting Santa and his elves is still a great day out. Despite restrictions, there are many places opening Santa’ grottos this year, all within different prices ranges.

Tredegar House, Newport

This one may be a little further afield but it’s definitely worth the journey. Tredegar House has a wonderful set up this Christmas starting on the 26th November. Including; a beautifully decorated historic house and gardens, a vast parkland and lakeside trail to explore, which is free to enter. Their cosy Brewhouse Cafe has a selection of tasty festive treats and their second-hand bookshop.

Nothing makes me feel more Christmas-sy than visiting places like this, elegant and stunning decorations in a historic setting. A perfect day out!

Christmas Shows

A night out to see a show is always a great time, but especially at Christmas time. We are so happy that theatres and concert halls are open again this year. I know I’ve missed them. From Pantomimes to classic music concerts, there is something for everyone to enjoy. PODS have been performing their Cinderella Pantomime, until the 5th December at the Pagent Rooms. There’s the Aladdin Pantomime at the New Theatre and St David’s Hall has a lot of truly amazing concerts throughout the next couple weeks.

St Fagans National History Museum

St Fagans always has a variety of events going on, and Christmas is no different. If you can, get yourself down to St Fagan’s this Christmas season. They have their Makers Market, you can meet Father Christmas, music events, crafting events for adults and kids. A wide selection of great activities for all the family. Some of these events, you have to book in advance so make sure you check out their website before going.
