Penarth named as one of UK’s most upmarket towns
Our sea-side town is loved for many reasons, so it comes as no surprise to see that Penarth has been named as one of the UK’s most upmarket towns. Having identified 20 of the best seaside spots across Britain that can be enjoyed throughout each season, The Telegraph and Savills placed Penarth at number 13 on the list.
The only Welsh entry to make the top 20, The Telegraph stated the town “gives families the bright lights of the big city with an outdoorsy coastal retreat”.
But what is it that makes Penarth Town so special?
Our high street
The bustling high street is one to be proud of. With many independent traders, there’s plenty of local places to shop that stock great-quality products.
The Esplanade
The iconic and much-loved Esplanade has definitely helped to ensure Penarth’s popularity status remains high. From a walk along the Pier or relaxing on the pebble beach, to delicious food at the coast-side restaurants; there’s plenty of reasons as to why the Esplanade is a great addition to our town.
Plenty of scenic routes to walk
There are numerous places to enjoy a peaceful stroll around the area, with the clifftop park and the path that hugs the coastline amongst the most favourable.
Cosmeston Lakes
Cosmeston Lakes is a personal favourite of mine. Full of a variety of wildlife, a beautiful lake to walk around, a play-park to stop off at with the children and bird feed available to buy, we definitely think Cosmeston Lakes deserves some recognition.
What do you think?
Throughout the years, we’ve spoken to many of the community who have shared with us what they thought about Penarth.
Ann and Graham Niblett said: “Lovely place to live. There’s everything in town, it has the sea, the countryside, a lovely beach – a bit of everything. So fortunate with lovely schools.”
Alison Jones commented: “How amazing is it that when you drive around the town daily you see some of our amazing houses, halls and iconic buildings being used to film great TV series.”
Claire Grafton shared: “One of my favourite things is just walking or driving along the prom and every time I do it I think we are blessed to live in such a beautiful place.”
Another, by Cathy O’Doherty, reads: “It is the community that makes Penarth special; the mix of people born here, returners and others like myself who have made it our home. It is a hidden gem.”
