Norwegian Church celebrates the Norwegian Festival of Light and Friendship

Pippa-Marie SheppardEvents

On 5th December 2021, the Norwegian Church will be open for this special event.

The Norwegian Church will be open from 11am for a day full of festive cheer and a celebration of Christmas in the Norwegian style.

This event is hosted by the Welsh Norwegian Society and Cardiff Council.

During the day, from 11-3pm, join the workshops to make traditional Scandi paper-heart Christmas tree decorations.

This is an ideal activity for friends and family. These workshops are ticketed on Eventbrite and cost £5 for the over 7s. Please book early as tickets are limited. See Eventbrite Details: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/christmas-decorations-workshop-tickets-205762941497?ref=eios

Throughout the day, you can enjoy festive food from the Scandinavian tradition with Norwegian specialities including freshly-made Norwegian waffles, Lapskaus (Norwegian beef stew) and gløgg (Nordic mulled wine) and of course hot chocolate, coffees and teas. These will be available from the Café during the day.

At 4.15pm, as darkness falls, everyone is welcome to the Lantern procession and the tree-lighting ceremony which will be outside at the front of the church.

Christmas Greetings will be exchanged between Vestland, Norway and Cardiff and you can expect to see the church illuminated.  The Rt. Hon. Lord Mayor of Cardiff and Lady Mayoress will be in attendance along with other Norwegian guests.

After the speeches, Father Christmas will be waiting by the Christmas tree to give all children a little free Scandi treat bag and to collect any ‘letters to Santa’.

Event closes at 6pm
