A new scheme has been launched in Penarth, in a bid to tackle food waste and support the local community.

A Food Pod, situated on St. Lukes Avenue in Penarth, has officially opened, offering a range of toiletries, hygiene products, tinned and perishable goods to residents with a ‘pay-as-you-feel’ scheme in place.

Open every weekday from 2pm until 4pm, the pod is part of the ‘Clean Slate Neighbourhood Programme’; a two-year plan to transform Penarth into a ‘cleaner and greener’ area.

Mark Ellis, Community Investment and Involvement Officer leading on the Food Pod project, said: “It was great to see a really good turnout from local residents with many taking away food bags of items from the newly launched Penarth Food Pod.”

“This local facility will make a real difference to people living in the area with the Food Pod opening Monday and Friday each week from 2pm – 4pm.”
