Local Charity Looking for Volunteers to Jump Aboard

Katherine PeachCharity, Community

The local sail training charity, Challenge Wales, is on the hunt for volunteers to jump aboard its sailing vessels to help the charity continue to deliver its outdoor education programme at sea and to help change the lives of young people.

The charity, which is based in Penarth, operates 72-foot Challenge Wales | Wales’ Tall Ship and 60-foot Adventure Wales and uses the sail training vessels to help those aged 12-25 years learn about ocean literacy, develop their employability skills, improve their mental health, improve their confidence and help them develop their full potential.

Challenge Wales Trustee, Vicky Williams states; “The Challenge Wales charity is predominantly run by our amazing volunteers who donate thousands of hours each year. After COVID we want to provide more opportunities for young people to join us but to do this we really need the help of more volunteers to help crew our boats.

Our volunteers are a wide-range of ages, bring a wealth of life experience, and are seen as positive role models. In return for their time, we can provide volunteers with training, the opportunity to develop their sailing skills & make new friends and improve their own confidence while having the satisfaction that they are making a difference in a young person’s life.
