Helping Hands Covid-19 Heroes
By now we’ve all heard of Helping Hands and the incredible work that they’ve done throughout the pandemic for the Penarth community. Helping Hands is a voluntary group that brought the whole community together to unite against the challenges that Covid-19 has caused.
With over 500 volunteers, Helping Hands has done so much for this community already. Anything from offering to collect shopping and prescriptions to a offering a friendly call to check in on people, this group has helped over 400 people in our community.
You may have also seen a few of the ‘Helping Hands’ boxes outside people’s houses. With about 15 of these ‘Activity Banks’, filled with books, games and DVD’s, it has helped spread positivity for children and their family’s in Penarth. And in the sunnier months last year, they organised a Seed Exchange Box for residents to exchange gardening goodies.
One of the most wonderful things this group has also done, is provide aid for our frontline workers. Delivering food and drinks to local care homes, surgeries and hospitals, they also help distribute and provide much-needed PPE supplies.
Although Helping Hands was formed under terrible circumstances, it has resulted in the creation of an ever-growing community of people striving to help those in need. Penarth has always had such a strong sense of community and this group is a shining example of that and we’re excited to see what they had achieve next.
“We would like to continue this support for the more vulnerable in our community into the future. As well as this, we have loved sharing the support for local shops and businesses in our community. We would love to continue the love for the businesses who have stayed fully-stocked through this challenging time and gone the extra mile to make us all smile.”
So in the spirit of helping others and to mark two years since the lockdown restrictions were imposed, Helping Hands would like to recognise the individuals within the Penarth community that have gone above and beyond to support others during this difficult time.
“We are looking for nominations of volunteers, frontline staff and remarkable individuals that have made a contribution to the response of the Covid-19 crisis. We will be rewarding some of these with a Shopappy voucher to spend on our lovely local high street.”
Do you know someone who have shown through these trying times and gone out of their way to help others in the community? If so, make sure you nominate them.
The nominations are open until 23rd April 2022 and their are so many ways you can get your nominations in. Through;
