The Royal Watercolour Society of Wales

This Royal Watercolour Society of Wales exhibition aims to encourage and promote the craft of watercolour in its many different guises.

The Mission of the society is to exhibit, encourage, promote and develop water-based media on paper and to reveal the possibilities of watercolour to a wide audience.

The Society initially aimed to hold 2 exhibitions a year in Wales. In recent years there have been exhibitions overseas in association with similar societies abroad. Recent international exhibitions include Reykjavík in Iceland in association with the Nordic watercolour Society with a return exhibition at the newly refurbished y Gaer in Brecon. Similarly, an exhibition at Aberglasney with The Associazione Italiana Acquerellisti (AIA) Italian watercolour society was reciprocated in Chiavari (Genova).

In 2007 the Prince of Wales, who is keen watercolour artist agreed to become Patron of the Society and he has exhibited his work with us. By permission of the Queen the society became The Royal society in 2003.

The Society has grown to around 40 members who are professional artists living and working in Wales. Membership of the Society is through election. Accordingly, the Society maintains a high standard of work and attracts new and exciting artists to join us.
