The Colour Room (2021) + Q&A
The Colour Room follows the journey of a determined, working class woman, Clarice Cliff, as she breaks the glass ceiling and revolutionises the workplace in the 20th century. This is the fascinating true-life story of the celebrated ceramicist whose vibrant and playful work has become highly collectible.
We’re thrilled that the film’s screenwriter, Claire Peate, is able to join us for this screening. Claire will introduce the film, setting the context, and then we’ll be discussing the origin of the project, Claire’s research and the film’s production in a Q&A afterwards.
About our special guest: Claire Peate is an award winning scriptwriter and novelist. Originally from the midlands she has been living in Cardiff for the last 16 years. Her film The Colour Room won a BAFTA new writing award (BAFTA Rocliffe) and went into production during lockdown. Two of her novels were WHSmiths’ Book of the Week and one was nominated for Wales Book of the Year.
Why you should see it: because it’s a fascinating story of success against the odds and you’ll learn all about Clarice Cliff

Please visit our website for full details of the steps we’re taking to make our screenings safe and comfortable for you.
The key points are:
– We will wear masks throughout our events
– We ask our audience to wear masks while moving around the building and during the screening – masks can be removed while you are seated with a drink, but we’d like you to keep time without a mask to a minimum
– We will respect social distancing and ask that you do the same
– If you have COVID symptoms, are told to self isolate or have a positive test, please do not attend the event – contact us as soon as you find out, we’ll work out a ticket swap for you
– Hand sanitiser is available throughout the building – please use it regularly and wash your hands
– We won’t be accepting cash payments to start with – we have contactless card machines
– Please listen to the guidance given by our ushers
Re-opening is very exciting for us but we’re conscious that not everyone feels confident about attending public events. This means that we’re intending to start gently, making you feel as comfortable and safe as possible. We will review our operating rules as we see how things go. Once you’ve been to a screening, please let us know if there’s anything you’d like us to change.
We’re really looking forward to seeing you!
