Peter Reynolds Composer Studio: Armida Quartet
24th May 2018, 9.30am-1.00pm
Cardiff University School of Music
Join us for an informal read-through of works written by participants on the Festival’s Peter Reynolds Composers Studio, played by the Armida Quartet. The Composers Studio is a residency for emerging composers with seminars, mentoring, composition workshopping, recording with world-class artists and exposure to contemporary music from around the world. The week-long residency aims to fulfil the vital need to give the composers at the start of their careers the best possible circumstances in which to hone their skills and create genuine career progression. If you would like to make a donation to support the programme, please email vogfestival@outlook.com
This event is free to attend but please send Caroline an email at vogfestival@outlook.com to reserve a space.
The Composers Studio was named in celebration of our great friend and colleague Peter Reynolds, who passed away suddenly in 2016. Peter was a highly original composer whose works display a huge depth of knowledge of musical literature. He was not only highly informed but had a unique artistic perspective as well. These qualities, too, were evident in his work as a teacher, a role he discharged with great gentleness and generosity of spirit. He had a long connection with the Vale of Glamorgan Festival and at the time of his death was working on a special commission (of a fanfare for classic car horns) for the 2018 Festival. We are proud to honour his life and work by naming the Composers Studio for him.
