£185 Raised for Cancer Research
In early February, £185 was raised for Cancer Research by Cllr Siân Vaughan, the Mayor of Cowbridge and her consort Rob Vaughan, who held a coffee morning. All dressed to support Wales’ in the Six Nations match against Ireland.
Cowbridge Team Push Recycling Initiative
A team of volunteers in Cowbridge are eager to encourage and educate the community about recycling. The group was set up in the midst of lockdown after recognising the vast increase of rubbish families were throwing away. With help from the Vale of Glamorgan Council, they now have 22 bins for all different kinds of waste.
Culture Club of Age Cymru
The wonderful group, Age Cymru, is piloting a Culture Club scheme in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, which aims to support isolated older people and get them out doing things they enjoy. Visiting cultural sites, community creative work and getting them out in nature. This scheme will hopefully help those who are isolated, giving them the opportunities to make new friends and to get out and safely enjoy cultural sites.
Local Artist Exhibition in Old Hall
Local Cowbridge Artist, David March, exhibited his collection of Welsh landscapes paintings at Old Hall, from March 5 to March 31st. The retired commercial artist sent over his work to Old Hall with the idea of putting on an exhibition back before lockdown. The exhibition, which was meant to take place in March 2020, finally went ahead 2 years later.
New Bilingual Education Resources for Welsh Schools
World Book Day saw an interested announcement from the Welsh Government and the Minister of Education and Welsh Language. They are introducing a bilingual educational resources company, aimed in creating and providing useful resources for schools and learners. A new curriculum will be introduced in schools, along with new materials and better access to relevant resources for teachers.
Cowbridge Country Market is Back
The beginning of March saw the return of Cowbridge Country Market. Producers of locally-sourced foods and handcrafted goods will once again be able to sell their wares until December, everything from preserves, freshly baked goods and fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as jewellery, flowers and handcrafted knitwear. Get down to the market at Lesser Hall.
Bicycle Repair Stations Installed across the Vale
10 bike repair stations, with free pumps and tools, have been install across the Vale of Glamorgan in a bid to encourage more cycling to improve health and reduce emissions. Funded by Public Health Wales, these stations are long-lasting and are sure to help the increasing amount of cyclists in the Vale.
More Funding for Mental Health
The Welsh Government has announced they’ll be putting more money into supporting the free online tool, SIlverCloud Wales, which helped people manage their mental health, particularly people with anxiety, depression and stress. Launch during the pandemic, the pilot scheme has proven very effective in supporting peoples wellbeing and will now be supported for three more years.
Vale of Glamorgan’s Tribute to Ukraine
Cllr Neil Moore, leader of the Vale of Glamorgan council, has released a statement addressing the horrors and unrest of the Ukrainian crisis. Within the statement, Neil Moore commends the Ukrainian people for their great strength and character. He goes on to give advice on how best to help the Ukrainian people in their desperate time of need.
Annual St David’s Day Concert Raises £400
The indoor concert organised by Cowbridge Rotary Club raised more than £400 earlier this month. With a performance by Rhydian Jenkins, a welsh opera singer studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama
