A charitable coffee shop has opened up in Roath with the aim of raising money to keep a much loved community building alive.

St Andrews Coffee shop, based in the grounds of St Andrews United Reformed Church, is founded by best friends Wayne Courtney and Nathan Wyburn. Their inspirational idea to set up the Coffee Court will ensure the survival of the 151-year-old building. With the business already proving popular amongst Roath’s community, it is with no doubt that the fundraising will help to restore the much loved church.

Nathan, who is a popular artist and has appeared on tv shows such as Blue Peter and Britain’s Got Talent, said “This venture is the idea of using a dead space. It was a car park that wasn’t really used apart from on Sundays.”

“It’s a big open space that anyone can come and enjoy.”

“In time, when we are allowed to perform in public again we are looking to set up a band-stand as a thank you to the public for supporting us.”

“It’s really exciting times of the Church.”

The Coffee Court is looking to be a permanent fixture, with Nathan adding, “Wayne and I have kickstarted it.”

The best friends have also added their own touch to the Coffee Court, with their humour shining through.

One sign reads, ‘Come in and take a pew.’ Whilst ‘He Brews’ is printed on their shirts.

The Coffee Court currently only accepts cash with added donations welcome. Customers can also request a loyalty card, where collecting 9 stamps will mean a free hot drink. There are individually packaged crisps and muffins also for sale, as well as a “hot chocolate with all the trimmings”.
