Celebrating Volunteers
We have all heard of Helping Hands Penarth, and the incredible work their volunteers have done throughout the pandemic. Helping Hands Penarth is a voluntary group who united the community against the challenges of COVID-19,
With over 500 volunteers, Helping Hands Penarth have done so much for this community already. Anything from collecting shopping and prescriptions, to offering a friendly phone call to check in on people, this group has helped over hundreds of people in our community.
You may have also seen a few of their activity boxes outside peoples’ homes. With fifteen of these, filled with books, games and DVD’s, it has helped spread positivity for children and their families. And in their sunnier months last year, they organised a Seed Exchange Box for residents to exchange gardening goodies.
One of the most wonderful things accomplished by this group is that they provided aid to our frontline workers- delivering food and drinks to local care homes, surgeries and hospitals. They also helped distribute much-needed PPE supplies.
Although Helping Hands Penarth was formed in the face of terrible circumstances, it has resulted in the creation of an ever-growing community of people striving to help those in need. Penarth has always had a strong sense of community and this group is a shining example of that, and we’re excited to see what they achieve next.
Zoya Yousef from Helping Hands Penarth said; We would like to continue this support for the more vulnerable in our community into the future. As well as this, we have loved sharing the support for local shops and businesses in our community. We would love to continue the love for the businesses who have stayed fully-stocked through this challenging time and gone the extra mile to make us all smile.”
So in the spirit of helping other, and to mark two years since the first lockdown restrictions were imposed, Helping Hands Penarth would live to recognise the individuals in the community who have gone above and beyond to support others during this difficult time.
“We are looking for nominations of volunteers, frontline staff and remarkable individuals that have made a contribution to the response of the COVID-19 crisis. We will be rewarding some of these with a ShopAppy Penarth voucher to spend with our lovely local businesses.”
Do you know someone who have shone through these trying times and gone out of their way to help others in the community? If so, make sure you nominate them!
