Festive Kids Fun
With Christmas quickly approaching, many families are looking for festive activities to do with their kids. The holiday time can bring such fun, so check out these great activities that children of all ages will love for years to come.
Fake Snowballs
We love pretend snowballs for fun Christmas activities and decorations. They are fab for snowball fights, for kids of all ages, as well as adults, and are also very versatile and can be used for different games. We use them for parachute games and shout “ready, steady, snow!” before shaking the parachute hard and fast to make it snow– all ages enjoy this, and if you don’t have a parachute at home, a sheet or towel works well. The activity is also great for early numeracy skills. Leaning number bonds, odd and even numbers, simple subtraction and addition. You can also play ‘Hunt the Snowball’, or make up your own games. Dogs love them too, so they’re an all-round winner!
Christmas Songs and Dances
Christmas songs and dances are fun for little ones, older siblings and grandma too-
The Snow-key Cokey– sung to the well-known ‘Hokey Cokey’ song. Put in your mittens and boots, instead of hands and feet, mime snow falling for, “Do the Snokey Cokey,” and then its “Knees bent, arms strecthed, brrr! brrr! brrr!” with a big shiver to finish off.
I’m a Little Snowman- sung to the tune of ‘I’m a Little Teapo’.
“I’m a little snowman, nice and fat. Here is my scarf, and here is my hat. When the snow is falling, I will stay. When the sun shines, I melt away!”
Melting Snowman Kit
You can also buy a kit to build your own snowman, then watch it slowly melt! It’s reusable and includes top hot, eyes, buttons, carrot nose and stick arms. Suitable for ages 3+.
Light up Toys
Light up toys create a magical sensory experience for little ones, and can be used alongside Christmas songs and activities. There are lots of different types- some with snowflakes, which whirl inside the toy like a snowstorm- but all are very popular and can be a calming activity after all the snowball play, singing and dancing.
