The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Book Review
The second book in the trilogy, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is a brilliant sequel to Katniss’ first adventure. It delves deeper into who Katniss is as a person, the trauma she has endured her entire life and the cruelty of the Capitol. It also brings to light the love-triangle she finds herself involved in with Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne, which in turn highlights her vulnerabilities that are displayed within the first novel.
Facing a new threat of losing her loved ones due to President Snows’ slight loss of control over the Districts, Katniss embarks on a journey to prove her ‘love' for Peeta. Her survival at the end of the first novel is viewed as an act of defiance by some, and so in a major twist President Snow does what he thinks is necessary to gain control once again.
In this novel, as a reader you get to know Katniss on a more personal level. You see her develop as a character and let her guard down, something a lot of young females can resonate with.I would recommend this novel to children around the age of 12 and over.
