The Hunger Games

Originally, I was under the impression that The Hunger Games was going to be all action, which is very far from the truth. The novel takes you on a journey through romance, emotions, thriller and gore all whilst somehow not being too much for children to read.
The main character, Katniss Everdeen, is a strong-willed, brave and determined young woman who, throughout the novel, slowly starts to show her vulnerabilities. Joining Katniss on her life endangering adventure after she selflessly saved her younger sister from having to compete in the annual ‘Hunger Games’ was both emotional yet thrilling. She meets many characters along the way that although are unique in many senses, they all have the same end goal; To put a stop to the senseless forced murders of children within the Districts.
This first novel in the trilogy will have you on the edge of your seat during its entirety. The suspense is continuous and Suzanne Collins did a really great job at bringing this sophisticated vision to life.
I’d recommend The Hunger Games to children and young people over the age of 12 that enjoy action, romance and a little bit of gore.
